Magnaclaw Launches on Dubai Beach

buds-smThe team at BinaryBean, Shaun Shulba, Richard Scott-Smith and Chris Veeneman have designed and built a gigantic claw game (yes, the one from your childhood that ate all your coins) and attended it’s debut on a crowded beach in Dubai this weekend. The installation, a vital part of their “Big Event Games” venture, was branded by Fosters Beer of Australia for a beach contest that included huge prizes, free beer and a trip for two to Australia. The game uses a standard arcade joystick to control a fast moving arm into position and with a press of the button, an electro-magnate is dropped towards the target. With good aim, a bit of strategy and a whole lot of luck, the magnate will pick up the target (in this case a giant Fosters Beer can) and allow player to move it to the score area. While the game itself can be configured into several different modes depending on the client’s needs, for it’s debut, it was all about the fastest time. The competition was impressive and the game drew quite a crowd. With a slight wind blowing from the sea, Dubai yachts, beach goers and Palm Jumiera in the background, the 6 meter high MagnaClaw with it’s lightshow, huge timeclock and loud MC took center stage, and did it well.
